New Orleans, LA - July 28, 2010 - Prompted by constituent complaints, the City Council Utility Committee requested a report from Entergy New Orleans on power outages in the Bywater neighborhood. Entergy representatives presented the report during this morning's Utility Committee meeting. Residents of the neighborhood have reported frequent blackouts, brownouts, and power surges in the area.
Entergy says that they have begun a detailed inspection of feeders and utility poles to determine the cause of the issues. Over the next three months they plan to conduct infrared inspections, which can be used to identify equipment or lines that are giving off abnormal heat.
Scheduled for completion in May of next year, Entergy plans to implement an Automatic Load Transfer Scheme between the Almonaster and Tricou substations to reduce customer impact.
The Utility Committee asked Entergy to report back at a future meeting on the process that residents and businesses can use to seek compensation for equipment that has been damaged by the power fluctuations.
